Faculty in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics conduct research, data analysis, and forecasting on local and global agricultural industries, natural resource economics, trade, and development economics in various countries. In support of the University of Arizona’s Land Grant Mission, we also specialize in Arizona agriculture and natural resource economics. Our Cooperative Extension faculty focus on understanding the economic drivers and trends in Arizona that impact local communities.

Initiatives & Programs
Applied International Development Economics Lab
Our researchers seek to find solutions to the economic and environmental challenges facing individuals and households in developing countries. Their research explores how technology adoption can reduce food insecurity and how environmental risk and climate change threaten progress.
Arizona Initiative for Resilience and International Development
AIRID brings together experts from across the university and around the world to help achieve a more resilient future by harnessing the far-reaching resources of one of the nation’s top 20 research institutions with expertise in areas ranging from public health to agriculture and food security, climate-adaptation, water security, governance, and the arid lands.
Climate Assessment for the Southwest
The Climate Assessment for the Southwest (CLIMAS) - a NOAA funded partnership between the University of Arizona, the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, and New Mexico State University—has been working with stakeholders from the private sector, academia, local, state, federal, and tribal government since 1998 to help bring the best-available knowledge to challenges related to weather and climate in the Southwest.
Humanitarian Assistance Technical Support
The Humanitarian Assistance Technical Support program expands on collaborative and interdisciplinary scholarship for humanitarian assistance and disaster management. Our researchers bring together individuals from different departments across the University of Arizona to develop new ideas, methods, and solutions.
The Initiative for Agency and Development
Our mission is to promote solutions to the problems of poverty, agency, and development. We bring together researchers from economics, law and behavioral sciences to work with international institutions, foundations, governments, and communities to promote economic development through research, education and outreach programs, and policy dialogues.
