Adding an undergraduate minor to your major plan broadens your knowledge and perspective and increases your value to future employers. We offer minor programs for students at our Tucson/Main Campus and Yuma Campus.
How to Add a Minor
If you major in ABEM or EWRE, you may not enroll in these minor programs due to course duplication. You may choose a minor from a different discipline on campus. Complete our program interest form to add a minor to your plan of study.
Agribusiness Economics & Management Minor (Main Campus)
Learn the fundamental economics of delivering food and water to the world with coursework focused on agribusiness and finances:
- Complete 18 of the required units of agricultural and resource economics coursework
- Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in the minor to graduate
- Must complete AREC 217 and Calculus Math 113, or their equivalent or higher, as prerequisites
Environmental & Water Resource Economics (Main Campus)
Gain foundational skills in applied economics with coursework at the intersection of environmental science, economics, and law:
- Complete 18 of the required units of agricultural and resource economics coursework
- Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in the minor to graduate
- Must complete AREC 217 and Calculus Math 113, or their equivalent or higher, as prerequisites
Agribusiness Analytics Thematic Minor (Yuma Campus)
Learn how to turn data into actionable decisions for prosperous businesses and communities with a strong introduction to applied economics and financial accounting. Connect with your academic advisor to get approval for your thematic minor form and enrollment into the minor.
Must be a U of A Yuma Campus student (not available for students from the Tucson/Main Campus).

Introductory to Financial Accounting
- ACCT200 or transfer equivalent (AWC: ACC211; IVCC: BUS210)
AREC 315, Agribusiness Economics & Management
- Offered in Fall semesters, ECON200 or Intro Microeconomics is pre-requisite.
- Description: Essential economic concepts and analytical tools for agribusiness managers are developed and applied to current business challenges and opportunities. Emphasis placed on decision tools, budgeting, entrepreneurship, strategy, organization and relationship management.
AREC 339, Economic Statistics
- Offered in Fall semesters.
- Description: Application and interpretation of statistical measures to problems in economics.
AREC 403, Analysis of Economic Data
- Offered in Spring semesters, AREC 339 is a pre-requisite.
- Description: Market functions, costs, price indices, seasonality, marketing margins, commodity market models, price determination and price forecasting.
AREC 450, Financial Management for Agribusiness
- Offered in Spring semesters, ACCT200 & AREC 304 are pre-requisites.
- Description: Application of financial management principals and tools to challenges and opportunities facing agribusiness firms. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition, allocation, control and transfer of capital resources.
